Provider Credentialing & Payer Enrollment

Get enrolled with payers faster so you can start billing sooner. We manage credentialing and re-credentialing from application to follow-up.

Provider credentialing verifies a clinician’s qualifications; payer enrollment gets them contracted and loaded so claims can be paid. Bill For You RCM manages CAQH, Medicare, Medicaid and commercial payer applications and tracks re-credentialing deadlines.

Reviewed October 19, 2026. Payer requirements and timelines change; confirm with each payer.

What we manage

  • CAQH profile setup and maintenance.
  • Medicare enrollment and state Medicaid enrollment.
  • Commercial payer credentialing and contracting support.
  • Group NPI enrollment.
  • Re-credentialing and expiration tracking.
  • Payer contract negotiation support.

What payers usually ask for

Having these ready before you start prevents most delays:

  • State license and, if applicable, DEA and state controlled-substance registrations.
  • NPI number and NPPES record that matches the application.
  • Board certification or education and training records.
  • Current malpractice insurance certificate.
  • Work history with no unexplained gaps.
  • W-9 and practice or group details.
  • CV and a completed, attested CAQH profile.

How the process works

  1. Collect and verify documents. We check for expired items and mismatches between records.
  2. Complete CAQH and payer applications. Medicare and Medicaid use their own enrollment systems.
  3. Follow up with each payer. Applications often stall without active follow-up.
  4. Confirm contracts and effective dates. We verify the effective date before you schedule patients with that payer.
  5. Track renewals. CAQH re-attestation and payer re-credentialing deadlines are monitored so enrollment does not lapse.

Why credentialing affects revenue

Claims submitted before enrollment is effective are commonly denied, and a lapsed credential can interrupt payment. Pairing credentialing with billing means your payer enrollment, authorizations and claims are managed together. See our full list of services.

Frequently asked questions

How long does provider credentialing take?

It varies by payer and state and can take from several weeks to a few months. Delays usually come from incomplete applications, expired documents or an out-of-date CAQH profile. Start well before the provider’s planned start date.

Can a provider bill before credentialing is complete?

Generally no. Payers pay from the effective date of the contract or enrollment, so claims for earlier dates of service may be denied or unpayable. Confirm the effective date with each payer.

What is CAQH and why does it matter?

CAQH’s provider data portal (formerly known as ProView) holds the shared profile many commercial payers use to verify a provider’s credentials. It must be complete and re-attested regularly (currently every 120 days), or applications can stall.

Do you handle Medicare and Medicaid enrollment?

Yes. We help with Medicare enrollment and state Medicaid enrollment, which have their own forms, portals and timelines.

How much does credentialing cost?

Credentialing support is part of our services. Contact us for a quote based on the number of providers and payers, or see our pricing page for billing fees.
